Our Longest Train Ride Yet Awaits...

...68 hours! Today, we've been swanning around Irkutsk. Most travelers come here for Lake Baikal trips, but we've just decided to take it easy before our big trip with visits to a coffee shop, art gallery, pub...then coffee shop again. Interesting observations about Irkutsk...the unique wooden buildings beside the standard Soviet brick beauties (ahem), and intertwining Buddhist iconic art with Russian impressionist art in the gallery. i always think an art gallery is not only a good way to kill a few hours, but get an immediate feel for what that city's past- and future- looks like.

Anyway, we're buzzing right now, and it's not just from all the caffeine. The main reason for these travels was to experience the Trans-Siberian train itself...and we're sure going to get a feel with three days on there. See you in Kazan, on the other side- I can't promise we'll be smelling too good...
